Why does the sunset make my heart loosen? Am I foolish or only human?
I stand alone in my balcony, quietly resting on my shoulders. Evening is my favorite part of the day, a softest hour..
The wind grows tender, hushed and slow, carrying the day’s last sigh. Between the dark and the dying glow the world around me stands still and so do I.
Inside me, something stirs— my mind and heart begin racing between right and wrong, duty and desire, “I have to” and “I long to.”
Pleasing memories drift past like quiet birds – Faces. Laughter and moments I ask why can I not live as I wish? Why must every step be measured and every dream explained? As if this is not a life I own, but something borrowed?
While distant hills go dark and the blue sky slowly paints into shade of orange, purple hue my teary eyes and smiling lips simply exists – do not argue.
The sun hides away behind the horizon without answering,. As if, it too does not have answer to my confidings..
And I remain— small against the wide, breathing sky— taking one deep, trembling breath as the last light disappears.
I close my eyes, not to escape, but to hold what is breaking.
